


World Health Day was observed in Paikgachha upazila of Khulna on Tuesday (April 7) with a rally and discussion meeting.
The programme was jointly organised by the Upazila Health Department and World Vision Bangladesh. A rally was brought out from the Upazila Health Complex and paraded key roads in the area.
Later, a discussion meeting was held at the Health Complex auditorium on the theme “Science in Health Care, Protecting All Lives.”
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Ahsanara Binte Ahmed chaired the meeting, while statistician Jahangir Alam moderated it.
Among the speakers were Junior Consultant (Gynaecology) Dr Sujan Kumar Sarkar, Consultant Dr Jahirul Islam, Medical Officer Dr Shakila Afroz, Dr Nayan Sarkar, Dr Arnab Ghosh, Dr Tanvir Ahmed and Dr Ankhi Das.
Also present were Safe Food Officer Uday Kumar Mondal, Press Club Vice-President Md Abdul Aziz, Senior Staff Nurse Hamida Khatun, Health Inspector Ruhul Quddus, and representatives from World Vision Bangladesh, including Palash Roy, Dil Rowshan Pompa and Sumaiya Yasmin. Local journalists also attended the event.
Speakers stressed the need to raise public awareness, expand health education, and ensure the use of modern technology in healthcare services. They also highlighted the importance of safe and nutritious food, eliminating superstition, and ensuring equal access to scientific and quality healthcare.
They emphasised the need to strengthen physical, mental, social, and maternal and child healthcare to ensure health services for all.
