A retired college employee in Kurigram has died after allegedly failing to receive his pension benefits even six years after retirement, leaving his family in severe hardship.
The deceased, Golzar Hossain, served as an office assistant at Majida Adarsh Degree College since its establishment. He retired on January 12, 2020.
After retirement, he applied for his pension on August 24, 2020, to the Private Educational Institution Teachers and Employees Retirement Benefit Board. His application index number was 607724 and application ID E-895296096.
According to family members, Golzar Hossain gradually lost his eyesight and suffered from mental health issues after retirement. Due to financial hardship, he was unable to afford proper treatment. He died at his home on March 31, 2026, after prolonged illness.
His wife, Mosha Jahanara Begum, has been paralyzed for over a year following a heart attack. The family includes two sons and two daughters. One son works as a bus helper, while the younger son died in a road accident in 2007. Both daughters are widowed and currently work as bidi workers to support their families.
The household, with around ten members, is struggling to meet basic needs.
Golzar Hossain, 66, was the son of the late Ajar Mamud and Goljan Begum from Old Station Para in Kurigram town.
Local resident Md. Limon Hossain said Golzar was a kind and respected person. “He suffered for years without treatment because he did not receive his retirement money. If he had received it on time, he might have survived,” he said.
Residents have urged authorities to release the pending pension immediately to support the family.
Abed Ali, Principal of Majida Adarsh Degree College, confirmed that Golzar Hossain had worked at the college since 1985. He said that while welfare funds were reportedly disbursed, the pension payment remains pending.
“I recently learned that he did not receive his retirement benefits. I am preparing documents and plan to visit Dhaka next week to follow up and take necessary action,” the principal added.
