Actress Radhika Apte has publicly voiced her strong concerns over the escalating trend of graphic violence and gore being used as entertainment in Indian films and shows.
In comments reported by The Hollywood Reporter India, Apte, who is currently on a break following the birth of her child, stated she is "deeply disturbed" by the surge, arguing that it is detrimental to society and makes her question raising a child in a world where such content is commercial entertainment.
Apte criticized the industry for confusing shock value with genuine storytelling. She emphasized that depicting excessive graphic detail, such as chopping and "horrible things," is unnecessary for conveying a violent story and undermines narrative depth. She finds it "deeply upsetting that that is what’s selling" in what she views as a post-pandemic trend prioritizing spectacle over substance.
On the professional front, Radhika Apte is gearing up for the release of her psychological thriller, Saali Mohabbat. The film, directed by Tisca Chopra, has generated significant buzz following screenings at major festivals like IFFI and the Chicago South Asian Film Festival and is set to premiere exclusively on ZEE5 on December 12, 2025.
