Water Resources Minister and BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne stated that past government corruption stalled vital infrastructure, leaving coastal residents vulnerable. Speaking during an inspection of the Meghna River bank protection project in Ramgati’s Alexander Union on Saturday afternoon, the Minister criticized the previous administration for laundering funds and bypassing proper investigations.
"Lakhs of crores were lost to corruption, which is why the Ramgati-Kamalnagar bank protection project was never completed correctly," Minister Annie said. "The people of this region have suffered as a result. We will take departmental action against those responsible."
The Minister emphasized the urgency of completing the ongoing 62-kilometer dam project stretching from Moju Chowdhury Hat to Boyrachar. He noted that while some sections are finished, the remaining work requires increased sincerity from contractors and relevant departments to prevent further erosion.
"Coastal communities are constantly fighting nature, especially during the monsoon floods," he added. "Due to missing protection dams, people have lost homes, land, and livelihoods. Under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, this government is committed to addressing these long-standing public demands."
Accompanying the Minister were Lakshmipur-4 MP Ashraf Uddin Nizam, Lakshmipur-1 MP Shahadat Hossain Selim, and senior district BNP leaders.
