The government will launch a nationwide honorary allowance program for Imams and Muazzins on Saturday (March 14). Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to formally inaugurate the program at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital at 10:00 am. The initiative aims to provide state recognition and financial support to religious representatives across the country.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting confirmed the matter in an urgent message issued on Thursday (March 12). According to the ministry’s Public Relations Officer Imranul Hasan, the program fulfills a long-standing expectation of religious servants.
Officials said the initiative will not be limited to Imams and Muazzins. Religious representatives from other faiths will also be included under the honorary scheme. Mosque attendants, Hindu temple priests and staff, as well as principals and vice-principals of Buddhist monasteries, are expected to receive similar benefits.
Authorities say the initiative is intended to strengthen communal harmony and improve the welfare of workers serving religious institutions.
Following the announcement, enthusiasm has grown among religious representatives nationwide. Thousands of religious workers are expected to benefit once the program is implemented.
The ministry said the distribution of allowances will be carried out through a transparent process. Officials also view the Prime Minister’s presence at the inauguration as a sign of the government’s commitment to supporting the country’s religious institutions.
