The Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited Workers' and Employees' Union (Reg. No. 1956) observed International May Day on Thursday with a colorful rally and a formal gathering. Under the global theme of "Workers of the world, unite," the event drew miners and representatives from various national gas and energy sector organizations.
The program was presided over by Union President Abul Kashem Sikder. In his address, General Secretary Jahangir Alam emphasized the critical need for a safe working environment and decent wages, given the high-risk nature of coal mining.
Speakers at the rally highlighted the indispensable contribution of miners to the national power grid and economic development. They urged the authorities to ensure the implementation of fair labor rights and social security for all mining employees.
The event also saw participation from several former union leaders, including Abdul Wahed, Mostafizur Rahman, and Mohir Uddin, alongside labor leader Abdur Rouf. The veterans echoed the call for strengthened unity to protect the interests of the working class in the mining sector. The day-long program concluded peacefully in a festive atmosphere.
