The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested four individuals and seized a significant cache of firearms, ammunition, and weapon-making equipment during separate raids in the city’s Bayezid Bostami area between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
A team from the Detective Branch (North) first apprehended 28-year-old Md. Hasan near the Dreamland residential area on Wednesday night. While a knife was initially found on him, a follow-up raid at a house in Hathazari’s Chikandandi area—based on Hasan's confession—led to the recovery of two locally made shotguns, one single-barrel gun, 20 cartridges, and various weapon parts.
Police records indicate that Hasan is a repeat offender with four prior cases involving theft and attempted murder.
In a separate operation, Bayezid Bostami Police arrested 30-year-old Nur Uddin Sohel at the Link Road area. Officers recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, and 20 rounds of ammunition from his possession.
Further interrogation led to the arrest of two more suspects, Tapas Palit (51) and Deepak Kanti De (58), in the Kotwali and Wazedia areas. A second foreign pistol and additional ammunition were seized during these arrests. Police believe the trio has been operating an illegal arms trade in the city for an extended period.
Legal proceedings against all four suspects are currently underway at the Bayezid Bostami Police Station.
