Journalist Anis Alamgir was released from Kashimpur Central Jail-2 in Gazipur on Saturday afternoon after being granted bail.

Jail Superintendent Md. Al Mamun confirmed that Alamgir was released at 2:35 pm following the verification of his bail documents, which arrived at the prison on Friday. His wife and relatives were present at the jail gate to receive him.

The release follows a series of legal developments. On Wednesday, March 11, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Sabbir Faiz granted him bail. Previously, on March 5, the High Court had also granted him bail in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The journalist also faces legal action from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). On January 15, the ACC filed a case against him for allegedly acquiring undeclared assets worth 32.648 crore BDT. Following an ACC petition, the court formally showed him arrested in that case on January 25. With bail now secured in all relevant cases, he was able to walk free today.
