


Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday inaugurated a landmark program to provide monthly honorariums to imams, muezzins, and leaders of various religious institutions across the country.
The inauguration took place at 10 am at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital. This initiative fulfills a key election pledge to support the nation’s religious community and promote communal harmony.
Under the pilot project, the government has structured the monthly allowances as follows:
Mosques: Tk 10,000 total allocation. The Imam will receive Tk 5,000, the Muezzin Tk 3,000, and the Khadem Tk 2,000.
Temples: Tk 8,000 total allocation. Priests will receive Tk 5,000 and Shebayats Tk 3,000.
Buddhist Monasteries: Tk 8,000 total allocation. Principals will receive Tk 5,000 and Vice-Principals Tk 3,000.
Churches: Tk 8,000 total allocation. Pastors or Priests will receive Tk 5,000 and Assistant Pastors Tk 3,000.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting confirmed that the initial phase covers 4,908 mosque staff, 990 temple priests, 144 Buddhist monastery leaders, and 396 church pastors. The program aims to recognize the social contributions of religious leaders while providing them with essential financial security.
