A sudden surge in stray dog attacks has left at least 20 people injured over the past two days in Lalmohan Upazila, Bhola sparking widespread panic among residents.
Victims, including children, women and the elderly have sought treatment at the Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex. According to hospital records, 13 people were treated for bite wounds on Wednesday and seven more arrived by noon on Thursday. Most of the reported attacks have occurred in the Badarpur Union.
In addition to those hospitalized locals report that many others are seeking informal treatment at local pharmacies or clinics across the upazila.
Residents have expressed alarm over the growing number of aggressive and visibly sick stray dogs roaming the streets. Currently local authorities have not initiated any response to manage the stray population or isolate the sick animals.
Dr. Md. Abu Mahmud Talha, Lalmohan Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer confirmed the sudden spike in dog bite cases. "We are providing free rabies vaccines and all necessary medical care to everyone coming to the health complex," he assured the public.
Dr. Talha also issued a public warning urging residents to remain vigilant and move carefully outdoors as stray dogs tend to become more aggressive approaching their breeding season.
