In a community-driven effort to improve the local environment, residents and officials gathered on Thursday afternoon (Jan. 25) to plant fruit and forest saplings on a previously abandoned plot of land in front of the Kaliganj Upazila Livestock Office.
The initiative was spearheaded by Nabiul Karim Lebu, a Union Parishad (UP) member candidate for Tushabhandar Union’s Ward No. 6 (Uttar Ghaneshyam). Together with local residents, Lebu recently cleared a 100-meter stretch of neglected land within the Upazila Parishad premises to make way for the greenery.
Speaking at the event, Lebu emphasized the long-term public value of the project. "There is no alternative to planting trees if we want to maintain environmental balance and build a green Bangladesh for the next generation," he said.
Local youth welcomed the initiative, noting that such eco-friendly activities not only protect the local climate but also significantly enhance the visual appeal of public spaces.
The tree plantation program was attended by several local officials and community members, including Kaliganj Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Ferdousur Rahman and Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Zahidul Islam.
