India is officially resuming tourist visas for Bangladeshi citizens, marking a significant step in normalizing travel between the two countries. The newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, confirmed the development while speaking to reporters after inspecting the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) at Dhaka’s Jamuna Future Park on Thursday, June 25. He stated that alongside the resumption of tourist visas, medical visas will continue to be processed.
Applicants can currently access these services at five designated centers: Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Sylhet. Trivedi also shared plans to expand the number of visa centers in the future to handle applicant volume. Additionally, new initiatives will introduce special, streamlined facilities specifically designed for medical visa seekers, children, and applicants with disabilities.Recently granted cabinet-minister rank by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Trivedi's appointment highlights New Delhi's focus on prioritizing bilateral relations.
The decision to reintroduce tourist visas is expected to significantly boost tourism, ease travel bottlenecks, and strengthen people-to-people connections between the neighboring countries.
