Remittance Inflows Surge as Bangladesh Receives $915 Million in First 8 Days of August

Bangladesh received $915 million in remittances during the first eight days of August, maintaining the strong growth recorded in the early weeks of the 2026–27 fiscal year.

According to the latest Bangladesh Bank data released on Sunday, August 9, remittance inflows during the first eight days of August were 42.9% higher than in the same period a year earlier.

Between August 6 and 8 alone, expatriate Bangladeshis sent $313 million through official channels. Another $196 million was received on August 4 and 5.

Since the beginning of the 2026–27 fiscal year, Bangladesh has received a total of $3.773 billion in remittances through August 8. During the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, the figure was $3.118 billion, representing an increase of nearly 21%.

Bangladesh Bank officials said the growing use of formal banking channels by expatriate workers is having a positive impact on the country's foreign-exchange inflows. They said sustained remittance growth could help strengthen foreign-exchange reserves and support broader macroeconomic stability.

Remittance inflows also recorded strong growth in July, the first month of the current fiscal year. The continued momentum in early August has raised expectations that Bangladesh could see further growth in expatriate earnings during the fiscal year.
