Class 11 Admissions to Follow Existing GPA-Based System: Education Minister

Students seeking admission to Class 11 in the upcoming academic year will continue to be admitted based on their SSC and equivalent examination results, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milan said Monday.

Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Education’s conference room on August 10, the minister said there would be no change to the existing admission system.

“Class 11 admissions will follow the old system, based on marks or GPA,” Milan said.

Asked about concerns that teachers had been strict when awarding marks in this year’s examinations, the minister responded, “You can sing with an open heart, but you cannot give marks with an open heart.” He also described this year’s results as "good".

Responding to a reporter who characterised the results as poor, Milan said, “Why are you calling it a bad result? The result is good.”

The minister also addressed students who may have performed below expectations. He said the government has changed the rules for reviewing examination papers. Under the revised system, students who apply for re-scrutiny will have their answer scripts fully re-examined. If any errors are found, necessary action will be taken.

The 2026 SSC and equivalent examination results were published Monday. The overall pass rate fell to 62.25 percent, while 116,676 students achieved GPA-5.
