Five More Children Die With Measles Symptoms in Bangladesh

Five more children have died with measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 1,155 children were reported with measles or suspected measles during the same period.

The figures were released Monday (August 10) in a health bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the bulletin, 992 patients were identified with measles-like symptoms over the past 24 hours. Since March 15, a total of 137,312 people have been reported with measles-like symptoms.

Meanwhile, 163 confirmed measles cases were recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases since March 15 to 17,278.

From March 15 through August 10, 119,322 people with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals, while 116,139 patients have been discharged after recovery.

The latest five deaths bring the total number of deaths associated with measles-like symptoms since March 15 to 780.

No deaths from confirmed measles were reported in the past 24 hours. However, 98 people have died from confirmed measles since March 15, according to the DGHS.
