A speeding covered van struck and killed businessman Mohammad Ali as he crossed the road at Bariyarhat Bazar in Mirsarai, Chittagong.

The accident occurred in front of the market's Green Tower around 9:00 a.m. on Thursday (June 25).

Ali ran a local business at Bariyarhat Bazar and was a resident of Dakshin Mehedinagar in Mirsarai (Hinguli Union, Ward 6).

According to witnesses, a recklessly driven covered van hit Ali while he was crossing the street. Locals rescued him in critical condition and rushed him to a nearby hospital before transferring him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). The doctor on duty declared him dead upon arrival.

Md. Saifuzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Zorarganj Highway Police Station, confirmed the incident. He added that the driver fled the scene with the vehicle immediately after the accident, and efforts are underway to track them down.
