Two religious leaders were killed on Sunday noon when a speeding pickup truck struck their motorcycle in Chittagong’s Mirsarai upazila. The fatal collision occurred on the old DT road in the Chowdhuryhat area of Zorarganj union.

The victims were identified as Joynal Abedin 35 and Zahir Uddin 52 both residents of the Charsharat area. Abedin was the khatib of the Dargahpara Kala Pirshah Jame Mosque and a local Olamadal leader while Uddin served as the mosque's muezzin.

According to eyewitnesses the two men were returning home from an errand when a fish-laden pickup truck coming from the opposite direction crashed into their motorcycle. Locals rushed the critically injured victims to the Mirsarai Upazila Health Complex.

Dr. Shafayat Hossain, an emergency department physician at the complex, stated that both men were dead upon arrival.

Jorarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Halim confirmed the incident, adding that officers were dispatched to the hospital immediately. "Necessary legal procedures including post-mortem examinations are currently underway," the OC said. The families of the deceased have been notified.
