A comprehensive dengue awareness and cleanliness campaign was launched in Jhalokati on Saturday morning, following directives from the central government to combat the rising threat of mosquito-borne diseases.
The initiative, jointly organized by the District Administration and Jhalokati Municipality, was officially inaugurated by public health expert and BNP Chairman’s advisor, Dr. Ziauddin Haider. The ceremony began with the symbolic spraying of mosquito repellent to mark the start of the drive.
Distinguished guests in attendance included Deputy Commissioner Momin Uddin, WCC Chairman Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmud Shakil, Additional Superintendent of Police Saiful Islam, Civil Surgeon Dr. Humaun Kabir, and Press Club President Advocate Akkas Sikder.
Following the inauguration, a massive cleaning drive was conducted across various municipal wards. Local volunteers joined municipal cleaning staff to remove stagnant water and waste.
During the event, Dr. Ziauddin Haider emphasized the importance of community action. "To protect ourselves from dengue and chikungunya, we must ensure our homes and surroundings remain clean," he stated. He noted that the campaign aims to foster public awareness and active participation in destroying Aedes mosquito breeding grounds.
