A massive election rally led by Maulana Abdul Hakim, the Jamaat-e-Islami–nominated candidate of the 11-party alliance, was held on Tuesday, drawing a large turnout of supporters. The rally, regarded as one of the biggest political processions in the area in recent times, marched through key streets before concluding with a roadside meeting.
Maulana Abdul Hakim joined the programme as the chief guest, while former president of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, Manjurul Islam, attended as the special guest. Speaking at the roadside meeting, Manjurul Islam said the country needs a new political direction based on justice and accountability. “We want to build a Bangladesh free from extortion and corruption. No more killings in broad daylight. We support the reform proposals of the July 24 movement and urge people to vote for the symbol of justice and fairness — the Scale,” he said. Addressing the gathering, Maulana Abdul Hakim outlined his vision and commitments if elected to parliament. He pledged to form a trust board for journalists through his own initiative. He also promised to divide Baraigram into two upazilas and develop Baraigram and Gurudaspur as humane and modern administrative units. He further assured that effective measures would be taken to upgrade the Bonpara–Hatikumrul–Sirajganj highway into a four-lane road, aiming to improve regional connectivity and boost economic development. Leaders and activists of the 11-party alliance, along with thousands of supporters, were present at the programme. The rally and roadside meeting reflected growing public enthusiasm ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election.
