Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday inaugurated the 'e-bail bond' system in seven districts, including Bogura, marking a major step toward modernizing Bangladesh’s judiciary.
Speaking at the Bogura District and Sessions Judge Court, the Prime Minister emphasized that his government is committed to restoring democratic rights and ensuring an accountable administration after years of "fascist rule."
Modernizing the Judiciary
The new e-bail bond system allows bail documents to be submitted and verified online, bypassing a manual process that previously involved 13 stages.
"The e-bail bond system will end unnecessary suffering and harassment," the Prime Minister said. "Under this system, a judge verifies the order and sends it directly to prison authorities online, allowing for the immediate release of the concerned person."
The system is now active in Bogura, Jhenaidah, Jashore, Magura, Rajshahi, Natore, and Kushtia.
The Prime Minister also revealed plans to link this system with National ID (NID) verification and police databases to eliminate fake warrants and middleman interference.
Tarique Rahman, who also serves as the Chairman of the ruling BNP, stressed that social balance and equality can only be achieved through an independent judiciary. He noted that while the judiciary was "turned into a partisan court" in the past, the current government is working to make it a place of "justice and trust."
"We want a Bangladesh where there is no difference between a minister and an ordinary citizen in the eyes of the law," he added.
Highlighting a critical human rights issue, the Prime Minister noted that roughly 30% of the prison population consists of under-trial prisoners who cannot afford lawyers. He directed the Law Minister to take immediate steps to address these delays and ensure "access to justice for all."
The event was attended by the Prime Minister's wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman. During the visit, the Premier also inaugurated the newly constructed Bogura District Bar Association building.
