Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the transformation of Bangladesh's economic zones into modern green and investment-friendly industrial hubs. Presiding over a Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) governing board meeting on Monday the Prime Minister emphasized the critical need to balance rapid industrialization with environmental protection.

To achieve this ecological balance the government will plant 125,000 trees across Export Processing Zones (EPZs) nationwide aligning with a broader national initiative to plant 25 crore trees. This green coverage aims to ensure that industrial expansion does not come at the cost of the environment.

The meeting also focused on strategic economic expansion and the optimal use of state resources. BEZA is currently evaluating the potential of repurposing the unused land and infrastructure of the former Karim Jute Mills and Latif Bawany Jute Mills in Narayanganj for new economic activities.

Deputy Press Secretary Md Suzauddhowla Sujon Mahmud stated that these collective efforts are designed to attract robust domestic and foreign investments, stimulate the local economy and generate significant employment opportunities for citizens.

Furthermore the board reviewed licensing guidelines for private economic zones to ensure strict regulatory compliance and discussed drafting updated policies to support sustainable industrial growth.

The high-level meeting was attended by key cabinet members including the Finance Minister Industries Minister Environment Minister and the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA).
