A modern water quality testing laboratory was inaugurated on Monday in Paikgachha municipality marking a significant step toward ensuring safe drinking water for coastal residents.
Located at the municipal water supply office the facility was established with support from WaterAid and the development organization Nabalok.
The lab was officially opened by Municipal Administrator Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury. Representatives from WaterAid Bangladesh and Nabalok were also present. The new facility is equipped to test for salinity, arsenic, iron, pH levels and the presence of harmful bacteria.
To ensure public safety, all commercial water plants in the municipality are now required to test their water regularly at this lab. They must also display their latest test reports publicly for customers to see. Residents can also bring water samples from their household tube wells for testing at an affordable rate.
Local officials stated that the lab is a vital tool for preventing water-borne diseases which are a major concern in the salinity-prone coastal belt.
Administrator Chowdhury described the lab as a "permanent asset" for protecting public health and promised regular monitoring to maintain high standards.
