The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has nominated Advocate Arifa Sultana Ruma for the reserved women's seat representing the Pabna-Sirajganj region.
Ruma is among the 36 final nominees selected by the party and its alliance for the 13th National Parliament.
The announcement was made by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi during a press conference at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan on Monday.
Advocate Ruma, a resident of Chatmohar, Pabna, has a long history in student and central politics. She previously served as the senior joint convener of Eden Mohila College Chhatra Dal and was a member of the Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP convening committee.
Party insiders suggest Ruma’s nomination recognizes her long-standing loyalty and activism. Over the past fifteen years, she has faced multiple arrests, police interrogations, and legal challenges during various political movements. Following the 2024 general elections, she was credited with mobilizing women voters in the Pabna-3 constituency.
Expressing her gratitude, Advocate Ruma stated, "I have remained steadfast with the party through its most difficult times. I am grateful to the party leadership for this nomination and hope to contribute to both the party's growth and the development of my region."
The election for the reserved women's seats in the 13th National Parliament is scheduled for May 12.
