A divisional tree plantation drive was inaugurated at the Tangail Sadar Upazila Campus on Saturday afternoon, following the environmental pledge outlined in the government's election manifesto. Sultan Salauddin Tuku, MP, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, launched the initiative by planting and distributing saplings.
During the event, the State Minister distributed local forest, fruit, and medicinal tree saplings to students from Jobaida Government Primary School.
The inauguration was attended by Tangail Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sanjay Kumar Mahanta, Tangail Divisional Forest Officer Dr. Abu Naser Mohsin Hossain, Tangail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahin Miah, and local community representatives.
Speaking at the ceremony, State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku highlighted that the central program—aiming to plant 250 million trees nationwide over five years—was launched earlier that day in Cox’s Bazar. As part of this national campaign, around 4 million trees will be planted across Tangail district to safeguard environmental ecology and restore regional climate balance.
Government officials, teachers, students, and citizens from various professions participated in the drive.
