Female Dentist Murder: Husband Placed on 2-Day Remand

A Dhaka court has placed Sohel Rana on a two-day remand for his alleged involvement in the murder of his dentist wife Sarah Roxana Pinu. The arrest follows a crucial forensic breakthrough by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) which matched a shoeprint found at the crime scene to Rana's shoes.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid granted the remand on Monday, scaling back the investigating officer's initial request for seven days.

Pinu’s body was discovered last Thursday at her residence in Faydabad’s Jamtala Gali, Dakshinkhan. Initially the incident was staged to look like a fatal burglary. The perpetrators had seemingly cut the balcony grill and looted the house. However CID investigators discovered a shoeprint on the balcony near the severed grill. This print was directly matched to Rana prompting his immediate arrest as the primary suspect.

According to the case dossier Rana claimed he went to his office after dropping their daughter at school on the morning of the murder. Returning home that afternoon the daughter found the front door locked. Upon entering she discovered her mother unresponsive on the bed with a pillow covering her face. Getting no response the child rushed back to school and used the principal's phone to alert her father.

Following the discovery the victim’s sister Sarah Sultana Poli filed a murder case against unidentified individuals. The investigation's focus shifted to Rana only after the forensic evidence was established.
