China Emphasizes Political Unity and Deepens Strategic Ties with Bangladesh

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen highlighted political unity, social stability and breaking away from a single-industry economy as key priorities for Bangladesh’s ongoing development.

Speaking at the "2026 Comparative Governance Forum" in Dhaka, co-hosted by the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) and Fudan University Yao praised Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s pragmatic and people-centered leadership.

The ambassador noted that the Prime Minister's recent visit to China in June marked a milestone elevating bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

This sets the stage for the next "Golden Fifty Years" of China-Bangladesh relations. Under the Belt and Road initiative key consensus was reached on major infrastructure projects including the comprehensive management of the Teesta River the modernization of Mongla Port and the advancement of the China-Myanmar-Bangladesh Economic Corridor.

Yao emphasized that sharing governance experiences is central to this new era of cooperation. The forum aims to help participants exchange insights on national governance poverty reduction and digital advancement. He encouraged Bangladeshi officials to adapt lessons from China’s modernization to suit local conditions.

Reiterating President Xi Jinping’s commitment Yao assured that China will remain a steadfast friend and partner to Bangladesh regardless of global shifts. The event featured prominent officials including the Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir as the chief guest signaling a strong mutual commitment to this growing strategic partnership.
