One killed in clash between two groups in Chittagong

A youth named Sajjad (22) was killed in a clash between two groups over the hanging of a banner with the picture of City Corporation (CC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain in Chittagong city.

The incident took place in front of Medina Residential on Syed Shah Road under Baklia police station at around 2 am on Monday. Locals said that there was a gunfight and a massive clash between the two sides.

The deceased Sajjad is the son of Alam, a resident of Taktarpul area of Baklia. Their home is in Muradnagar upazila of Comilla district. He is known in the area as a follower of City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain.

Baklia police station OC Ikhtiar Uddin said, "One person was killed in a clash between two parties over the hanging of a banner on Syed Shah Road. The situation is currently under control.’ Local sources said that the clash took place between the expelled leader of Chittagong Metropolitan Jubo Dal, Emdadul Haque Badsha, and the followers of Borhan Uddin.

On the occasion of the Jubo Dal’s founding anniversary, Borhan’s followers had put up a banner with the picture of City Mayor Shahadat Hossain on Syed Shah Road. When Badsha’s followers tried to take it down at night, Borhan stopped them with people. A clash broke out between them. In this, 8-10 people, including the deceased Sajjad, were shot.
