The people of Tala–Kalaroa want to live in peace, free from extortion, harassment and false cases, said Md. Izzat Ullah, newly elected MP from Satkhira-1 (Tala–Kalaroa).
He said elected representatives, government officials and employees, and journalists must work together for development. He was speaking as the chief guest at an iftar mahfil organised by Jamaat-e-Islami in honour of journalists.
The programme was held at the hall of Tala Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday (March 3) at noon.
Md. Izzat Ullah described journalists as the mirror of society and said their role in building a welfare state is vital. Through reporting, journalists highlight oppression, injustice, crime and irregularities, he said. He urged them to uphold professional responsibility and avoid publishing false, exaggerated or baseless information.
He added that journalism should serve public welfare. “You may write against me, but take my statement so I can correct myself if needed,” he said.
The event was chaired by Mofidullah, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Tala Upazila. Patkelghata Press Club General Secretary Professor Sardar Yasin conducted the programme.
Satkhira District Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer Dr. Mahmudul Haque spoke as a special guest. Other speakers included Gazi Sujayet Ali, Dr. Aftab Uddin, Idris Ali, M. A. Hakim, and Golam Faruk.
