Tension and vandalism broke out at the emergency department of Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital after the deaths of two workers in a landslide during a WASA sewage project in Chattogram. Police have detained six people in connection with the incident.
On Thursday (April 23) around 9 am, agitated workers broke the glass panel in front of the hospital’s emergency department. Police quickly arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control, detaining six individuals involved.
Earlier at around 4 am, a landslide occurred during construction work on a sewage project in the Agrabad Access Road area. Two workers died on the spot, while two others were injured.
The situation escalated after the dead and injured were brought to CMC Hospital. Angry workers gathered in front of the emergency unit, staged a protest, and later turned violent, damaging property.
Brigadier General Taslim Uddin, Director of the hospital, said the situation worsened due to a dispute between workers and the project contractor, which led to the breaking of glass at the emergency entrance.
Panchlaish Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jahedul Islam confirmed that six people have been arrested and are being questioned.
Law enforcement presence has been increased in the hospital area, and the situation is now under control.
