Residents of Sonargaon in Narayanganj are facing severe disruption due to prolonged load shedding, with electricity cuts lasting around 10 to 12 hours daily. The ongoing power shortage is affecting both daily life and the ongoing SSC examinations.
Local people say power outages are occurring repeatedly without any clear schedule, making it difficult to maintain normal activities. Students are among the worst affected, as their studies are being seriously disrupted.
SSC examinee Jafri Al Hossain said frequent power cuts have become a major obstacle to exam preparation. He added that uninterrupted electricity is essential during such a crucial academic period, but the current situation is making study preparation extremely difficult.
He also expressed concern that despite government instructions to manage electricity use during fixed office and market hours, the situation on the ground has not improved.
Parents also voiced similar concerns. Abul Hossain and Lakhi Akhtar said that prolonged power outages during intense heat are affecting children’s health and education. They added that studying at night has become nearly impossible due to the lack of electricity.
Repeated attempts to contact officials at the Sonargaon Rural Electricity Zonal Office were unsuccessful, as responsible officers were not reachable.
Locals have urged authorities to reduce load shedding during the SSC examination period and ensure a stable electricity supply so that students can complete their exams without further hardship.
