The first incident occurred on July 8, when robbers ambushed a Japanese expatriate’s car near the Meghna Toll Plaza in Sonargaon. The gang held the family hostage, stealing cash, mobile phones, and jewelry. Following an investigation, police raided Chittagong’s Zorarganj area and arrested gang leader Kabir Hossain along with three accomplices. Authorities recovered 8.5 bhori of stolen gold based on their confessions. A manhunt is underway for a fifth suspect.
The second incident took place on July 2 at the Haripur 110 kV power plant in Bandar. A gang assaulted on-duty Ansar members and looted two official shotguns. The District Detective Branch (DB) later arrested the suspected mastermind, Faruk Hossain (alias 'Ace Faruk'), in Rupganj. Interrogations led to the recovery of one of the stolen shotguns.
