A yarn trader was killed and another man seriously injured during a violent robbery in Muktshipur village, Sonargaon Upazila, late Wednesday night.

The deceased, identified as Nazrul Islam, 46, was a resident of Ward No. 7 in Mograpara Union.

According to local sources, a gang of armed robbers entered the village near the Panchpir Dargah area after midnight. As the gang attempted to loot several houses, Nazrul Islam and several neighbors tried to resist the attackers. The robbers struck back with sharp weapons, leaving Nazrul and another villager critically wounded.

Victims were rushed to a local hospital, where the attending physician pronounced Nazrul Islam dead. The condition of the second victim remains critical.

Police recovered the body on Thursday morning and sent it to Narayanganj Victoria Hospital for an autopsy.

"We have already inspected the scene and detained one suspect for questioning," said a local police official. "Operations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining members of the gang."

The incident has sparked widespread panic across Mograpara Union, with residents calling for increased police patrolling in rural neighborhoods.
