US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen expressed deep admiration for the traditional Bhimruli floating guava market during a visit to Jhalokati on Sunday morning.
Accompanied by his wife Dien Dao the ambassador toured the region's famous waterways and orchards. He engaged directly with local growers to learn about their cultivation methods, daily livelihoods, and the unique boat-based trading system that defines the monsoon season in southern Bangladesh.
"The natural beauty and the vibrant floating market of Bhimruli are truly fascinating," Christensen remarked, praising both the farmers' hard work and the premium quality of their harvest.
Noting that guava is also cultivated in warm US regions like Florida, Hawaii, and California, Christensen highlighted the strong potential for exporting Bangladeshi guava to international markets including the United States. He stated he would discuss these export possibilities with the US government and relevant ministries.
The Bhimruli floating market remains a premier agro-tourism destination. During the monsoon local canals come alive with boats laden with fresh guava, drawing tourists from across the globe.
The ambassador's visit has sparked fresh optimism among Jhalokati's farmers, who believe that introducing Bhimruli’s produce to global markets could transform the region's agricultural economy and significantly boost rural tourism.
