The decision was announced on Sunday afternoon following a high-level meeting of the opposition coalition held at the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam, a key leader of the alliance, confirmed Colonel Oli Ahmed’s nomination. Leaders from other member parties of the coalition were also present during the announcement.

Meanwhile, the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has collected two nomination forms from the Returning Officer's office under the Election Commission (EC) for the presidential poll.
