Two workers were killed on the spot when a passenger bus lost control and plowed into a road median in the capital’s Banani area on Thursday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 3:50 PM near the Setu Bhaban area. While the identities of the victims have not been officially confirmed, witnesses and police believe they were Dhaka City Corporation laborers engaged in roadside beautification work.
According to police and local witnesses, the "Bhuiyan Paribahan" bus was heading toward Gazipur from Mohakhali. The driver reportedly lost control during a scuffle with several transgender individuals who were attempting to board the vehicle. The bus veered off the road, hitting a footbridge and crushing the workers.
"The bus crashed into the island and killed two men instantly," said AKM Moinuddin, Inspector (Operations) of Banani Police Station.
Following the crash, traffic police cleared the wreckage to restore vehicle flow. The driver and helper fled the scene immediately after the incident. Police are currently working to identify the victims and apprehend the driver.
