Two men from Paikgachha were killed in a head-on collision between two goods trucks in Ghoraghat Dinajpur early Thursday triggering grief in their community.

The deceased were Shariful Sana (43), son of the late Shahidul Islam Sana of Betbunia village, who died on the spot, and his brother Md. Hanif Morol (50) of Jilej village, who died around 10:30 am at a local hospital.

The accident occurred around 3:30 am on the Dinajpur–Gobindaganj regional highway, in front of a Dakhil madrasa in the Sonamukhi–Shaula area of Ghoraghat upazila.

Family and police sources said the two were travelling in a truck loaded with husks after completing business activities in Dinajpur, where they had sold watermelons. The collision occurred as they were returning home via Birampur.

Police and eyewitnesses said a Dhaka-bound potato-laden truck and a Jessore-bound husk-laden truck collided head-on after losing control while approaching from opposite directions. The impact severely damaged both vehicles, killing Shariful instantly and critically injuring Hanif.

Ghoraghat Police Station said officers rushed to the scene, carried out rescue operations, and recovered the body. The damaged trucks have been removed, and traffic on the highway has returned to normal.

The incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the victims’ home area in Paikgachha.
