


A wave of grief has swept through Muksudpur upazila following the death of respected social worker Kanan Bala Thakur. She passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 2:56 PM at the age of 76.
Kanan Bala Thakur was the wife of the late Kartik Chandra Thakur, a former central executive member of the BNP, and the mother of local BNP leader Rana Thakur. Family sources confirmed she had been battling age-related health complications for some time.
Born on August 11, 1950, in Achar Para, Gohala Union, she was known from a young age for her compassion. After marrying into a politically active family in Tikardanga village, Ujani Union, she became a pillar of support for her husband’s career while quietly leading various humanitarian initiatives.
Throughout her life, she remained dedicated to the welfare of the underprivileged, earning widespread respect for her grassroots community work. She is survived by one son, seven daughters, and a large circle of relatives and admirers.
Gopalganj-1 MP and BNP National Executive Committee Joint Organizing Secretary, Md. Selimuzzaman Selim, expressed deep sorrow over her passing. In a formal statement, he prayed for her eternal peace and offered heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family. Local political, social, and cultural leaders also issued messages of condolence, noting that her loss is an irreparable blow to the community.
