


A refresher training workshop for professional drivers was held in Chattogram on Sunday to promote road safety and reduce noise pollution.
The training was organised by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) under its project on noise pollution control and accident prevention. The programme is mandatory for drivers when renewing their licences.
According to BRTA officials, such training sessions are regularly held on Sundays and Thursdays.
Senior officials present included BRTA Director (Training) Mosammat Momtaz Begum, BRTA Chattogram Division Director (Engineering) Md. Masud Alam, Chattogram Metropolitan Police DC Rais Uddin, and Environment Department Assistant Director Shahazada Md. Shamsuzzaman, among others.
The workshop covered key topics such as the impact of noise pollution, road safety practices, causes of road accidents, traffic laws and signals, and penalties under the Road Transport Act 2018. Drivers were also trained on vehicle basics, personal hygiene, and proper behaviour with passengers.
Awareness materials were distributed among participants. Each driver received a Tk 300 honorarium and lunch.
A total of 249 professional drivers attended the training.
