Police have arrested two suspects following a targeted attack, vandalism, and looting at the home of a minority family in the Goalbathan area of Kapilmuni Upazila.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Monday, March 23, at the residence of Sukumar Chandra Dhali and Uttam Kumar Dhali. According to the victims, a group of armed individuals launched a pre-planned assault after the family refused to pay extortion money.

The attackers reportedly entered the premises in two phases. During the initial intrusion, they vandalized the property and threatened the family to leave the area. Shortly after, they returned with reinforcements, indiscriminately beating family members and causing further destruction. Several people, including Sukumar Dhali, sustained injuries and received local medical treatment.

The formal complaint states that the attackers looted cash and gold ornaments. Furthermore, female members of the household were reportedly harassed and molested during the ordeal. Uttam Kumar Dhali noted that his wife and children, including a 9-month-old infant, were present and remain traumatized by the violence.

Sukumar Chandra Dhali filed a case (Case No. 15, dated 24-03-2026) at the local police station, naming nine specific individuals and 8–10 unidentified others. Police have since apprehended two suspects: Russel Gazi (33) and Ratul Gazi.

Paikgachha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Kibria confirmed the arrests and stated that investigations are ongoing. Local residents have expressed concern over the rising insecurity and are demanding exemplary punishment for those involved.
