Petrol pumps across Narail remained closed today in protest of the killing of a filling station manager, who was reportedly run over by a truck following a dispute over fuel.
The Narail District Pump Owners Association called for the day-long strike, demanding the immediate arrest of the driver involved. Saiful Islam Hitru, joint convener of the association, confirmed that 10 pumps in the district suspended operations to stand in solidarity with their fallen colleague.
According to witnesses, the conflict began around midnight on Saturday (March 28) at Messrs. Tanvir Filling and Gas Station in Tularampur. A local truck driver, Sujat Molya, allegedly demanded fuel out of serial. When manager Nahid Sardar (33) and worker Jihad Molya (27) asked him to wait in line, an argument broke out. The driver reportedly threatened them before leaving.
At approximately 2:10 AM, as Nahid and Jihad were returning home on a motorcycle after their shift, a truck—suspected to be driven by Sujat—chased them and struck them from behind before fleeing the scene.
Locals rescued both men and rushed them to Narail Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared Nahid dead. Jihad, who sustained critical injuries, has been transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tularampur Highway Police Station, Sekender Ali, stated that the body has been sent for an autopsy. "We are currently analyzing CCTV footage to track down the driver and seize the vehicle," the OC added.
