Animal Welfare Council Launched in Tangail to Aid Stray Animals

A new voluntary group, the Animal Welfare Council has been formed in Tangail to protect stray and neglected animals across the district's streets.

The organization launched at a general meeting of animal lovers at Battala in Tangail city on Thursday afternoon speakers pledged to work together for animal safety and welfare.

The meeting also formed the council's first executive committee with Nahar Chakladar as president and Moniruzzaman Monir as general secretary. Other office-bearers include Vice President Imrul Hasan Babu, Joint Editor Beauty Akhter, Organizing Secretary Saiful Islam Sabuj and Treasurer Shah Alam Sarkar alongside five working committee members.

Leaders said stray dogs, cats and other animals in Tangail regularly suffer from road accidents food shortages and cruelty. The council will focus on four areas: emergency treatment, food and shelter, prevention of cruelty and vaccination.

Plans include rescuing and treating animals injured in road accidents also arranging regular feeding points across the city and providing shelter during natural disasters. The group also aims to raise legal awareness against animal cruelty and working alongside local administration and to run phased vaccination and sterilization drives to curb diseases such as rabies.

Speakers said protecting animals is essential for environmental balance and building a humane society. The council has appealed to social organizations, youth groups and residents across Tangail to support its goal of making the district animal-friendly.
