The government has reshuffled several key ministries following BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s nomination as the party’s candidate for the upcoming presidential election.
Fakhrul has stepped down from his party positions and ministerial responsibilities after being selected as the presidential candidate.
According to the new arrangement announced Thursday (August 13), Salahuddin Ahmed, who was serving as Home Minister and is a member of the BNP Standing Committee has been given charge of the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Ministry.
Meanwhile, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee, who was previously in charge of the Water Resources Ministry, has been appointed the new Home Minister.
The changes were finalized following a high-level government review meeting on Thursday afternoon. Officials said the reshuffle was made to maintain administrative continuity and ensure that the important ministries continue to function smoothly.
Fakhrul decided to leave his parliamentary and government responsibilities after being chosen as the BNP’s presidential candidate. His departure created the need for an immediate replacement at the LGRD Ministry also leading to the latest cabinet changes.
