Jared Kushner, special envoy and son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, may visit Israel next week for talks on the situation in Gaza, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The news was first reported by U.S. media outlet Axios, which noted that Kushner is also expected to meet with mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey in Cairo next week.
A source told Reuters that while the U.S. and Israel agree on the objective of disarming Hamas, Israel has raised certain concerns that Washington considers "valid". Both nations are currently working together to address those concerns.
The primary objective of Kushner's potential visit to Israel is to chart a path forward for implementing President Trump's 20-point proposal for Gaza, which was introduced in late 2025. In late July, Trump announced that an agreement had been reached regarding the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in the enclave.
Under Trump's framework, the disarmament of Hamas would proceed alongside a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces. Additionally, an International Stabilization Force would operate alongside a newly formed Palestinian police force to secure the territory.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly expressed opposition to Trump's plan.
Conversely, Hamas has indicated its willingness to accept the framework, stating that implementation hinges on Israel fulfilling its own commitments first, including halting military attacks and withdrawing its troops.
Although a ceasefire has been in place since October, it has faced repeated violations. According to Gaza health officials, over 1,250 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since the truce was enacted. Israel reports that four of its soldiers have been killed by armed groups during the same timeframe. Hamas typically does not disclose casualty figures for its fighters.
Kushner’s expected visit comes at a delicate juncture, as significant disagreements remain among the U.S., Israel, and Hamas regarding the sustainment of the ceasefire, the logistics of disarming Hamas, and the timeline for Israeli troop withdrawals.
