Israeli forces shelled several towns across southern Lebanon with white phosphorus munitions on Friday according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA).
Artillery strikes targeted the outskirts of Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, Mayfadoun and Nabatieh al-Fawqa in the Nabatieh district with phosphorus shells fired repeatedly into residential and outlying areas. In the Tyre district heavy artillery fire hit Wadi Zibqin as well as the outskirts of Haris and Haddatha.
Meanwhile the Lebanese army bomb disposal experts safely dismantled and relocated two unexploded Israeli aerial bombs discovered in the Marjayoun and Bint Jbeil districts.
The ongoing military action comes despite a diplomatic framework agreement reached in June. The deal stipulates a phased Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory alongside the deployment of the Lebanese national army and the disarmament of Hezbollah.
Lebanese health authorities report that the conflict has claimed at least 4,386 lives also injured more than 12,400 people and displaced over one million residents since March.
