Teachers, students, and staff of Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) formed a human chain on campus this Sunday afternoon, demanding the appointment of a Vice-Chancellor from within their own faculty.

The demonstration, held on March 29, featured prominent speakers including Business Administration Chairman Md. Kamruzzaman, Life and Earth Sciences Dean Professor Dr. Fazlul Haque, and Economics Chairman Professor Dr. Nazmul Islam. Other department heads and faculty members also joined the call for local leadership.

Speakers noted that since the university’s founding in 2008, every Vice-Chancellor has been an outside appointment. They argued that PUST now possesses a mature pool of qualified academic talent capable of leading the institution. Protesters claimed that the reliance on external leadership has led to administrative disconnects and deprived internal staff and students of essential facilities and career growth.

The protesters urged the government to break the cycle of external appointments and select a candidate from the PUST campus to foster better institutional development.
