


Professor Dr. Abul Hasnat Mohammad Shamim has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST). Before this appointment, he served as a professor and treasurer at the School of Agriculture and Rural Development (SARD) of Bangladesh Open University (BOU).
The Ministry of Education issued a notification on Thursday (May 14), signed by Assistant Secretary Md. Shah Alam Siraj. According to the order, Dr. Shamim will serve as Vice-Chancellor for a four-year term from the date of joining. He will receive salary and allowances equivalent to his current position, along with standard benefits. As the university’s Chief Executive Officer, he is required to reside on the campus full-time.
Dr. Shamim has an excellent academic record, securing First Class in all major examinations. He passed SSC (1991) from Manaksha Humayun Reza High School, HSC (1993) Rajshahi Government College.Obtained both his Bachelor's (1997) and Master’s (1998) degrees from the Department of Soil Science at Dhaka University.
He began his career as a researcher for various domestic and international projects under the Ministry of Education. After serving as a research assistant for the 'Education Commission-2003', he joined Bangladesh Open University as a lecturer in 2005.
In 2010, he earned a PhD in Environmental Science from Okayama University, Japan, under the prestigious Monbusho scholarship.
Dr. Shamim is an accomplished author and researcher with over 40 research papers and nine books to his credit. He is notably recognized for discovering new antibiotics and pesticides from herbal plants and soil microbes (Streptomyces spp.).
Additionally, his 'Agricultural Education' textbooks are widely used in the national curriculum for classes XI and XII across Bangladesh.
