In a chilling incident in Bhola Sadar Upazila, miscreants murdered an elderly woman and looted gold ornaments from her person on Wednesday night.
The victim, identified as Halima Begum (65), was the wife of Mofizal Sikder of Chankaji Sikder’s house in Ward No. 4, Uttar Digaldi Union.
According to family members, the incident occurred around 9:00 PM while Halima’s husband and sons were at the local mosque for Tarawih prayers. Halima, who lived in the main house while her sons lived in adjacent dwellings, was briefly alone after returning from a short visit to her son’s house.
Upon returning from the mosque, the family found the front door open and discovered Halima’s bloodied body lying on the porch. A village doctor was summoned and declared her dead at the scene.
"We found her with blood on her nose and mouth," said Harun, the victim's son. "The gold ornaments she was wearing were missing, and the trunk containing our valuables had been broken into. This was a cold-blooded murder for loot. We demand immediate justice."
Police from Bhola Sadar Model Station arrived shortly after being notified. Muhammad Monirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC), confirmed that injury marks were found on the body.
"We have completed the initial post-mortem report," the OC stated. "Legal action will be taken as soon as the family files a formal case, and an investigation is already underway."
