Prime Minister Tarique Rahman declared on Thursday that achieving self-reliance for every family is the core mission of the current government. He made these remarks during his speech at the nomination of the Speaker of the National Assembly on March 12.
"As Prime Minister, I represent all citizens regardless of party, religion, or caste," he stated. "My politics is dedicated to protecting the interests of the nation and its people. To achieve this, I seek the cooperation of all democratic citizens and every elected member of this Parliament."
Addressing the House, the Prime Minister emphasized that while political programs may differ, there should be no conflict in the shared goal of building a sovereign, safe, and self-reliant Bangladesh free from fascism.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, noting her role in institutionalizing parliamentary democracy.
"She fought until her final days to re-establish the rights of the people and never compromised with tyranny," he said. "Today, the journey of that desired parliamentary democracy begins anew. It is a moment of success for the country, though she is not here to witness it. We remember her with deep respect."
PM Tarique Rahman reiterated that the BNP’s political focus remains on improving living standards. "By making every family self-reliant, we aim to establish a prosperous and democratic Bangladesh," he added.
Regarding the transition of power, the Leader of the House noted that the current session is beginning under unique circumstances. He observed that the previous administration’s actions led to a leadership vacuum in the Parliament, with former officials either in custody or absconding.
"The ousted regime made this Parliament ineffective," the Prime Minister concluded. "Our goal is to restore this great National Assembly as the center for all national debate and the solution to our country's problems."
