Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has pledged proper recognition, rehabilitation and long-term support for the families of martyrs and those injured during the July Mass Uprising.
Speaking at the July National Conference at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center on Saturday, the Prime Minister emphasized that his administration is fully committed to honoring the sacrifices of the July fighters.
Reflecting on national healing, the Prime Minister stated that his late mother, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, would have advised unity over revenge. While reaffirming his commitment to prosecuting those responsible for the killings during the uprising, he stressed the importance of legal due process. "Justice must not become a source of injustice for anyone. Even if it takes longer, we must ensure the guilty receive fair trials," he said.
The Prime Minister declared that the victory of August 5 belongs collectively to all democracy-loving citizens rather than any single individual or political party.
The conference organized by the July '24 Martyrs' Families Society and Amra July Joddha, brought together hundreds of grieving families. The Prime Minister distributed commemorative "July Memorial" plaques to several representatives of the martyrs and injured survivors.
The event was chaired by Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, with senior cabinet ministers, diplomats and military officials in attendance. The July 2024 movement which began as a student quota reform protest, culminated in the fall of the Sheikh Hasina regime on August 5.
