Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended the grand finale of the national Notun Kuri Sports 2025-26 tournament at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in Dhaka on Monday.

Greeted by cheers from over 8,000 students the Prime Minister walked among the young athletes, exchanging greetings and encouraging them to pursue sports. He was joined by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque. At the event's conclusion the Prime Minister distributed trophies and prizes to the champions.

Organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports under the theme "If sports becomes a profession, the family will find security," Notun Kuri Sports aims to uncover athletic talent among 12- to 14-year-olds at the grassroots level.

The nationwide initiative initially kicked off on May 2 in Sylhet. Since then, nearly 170,000 adolescents from across Bangladesh have competed in eight disciplines: football cricket kabaddi athletics badminton chess swimming and martial arts. Monday’s closing ceremony highlighted the boys' and girls' football finals, as well as the 100-metre sprints. In a standout match, the Sylhet Region claimed victory over the Mymensingh Region with a 2-0 win in the boys' football final.
